Blueberry Peach Smoothie with Almond Milk is a great way to ease into a healthier diet after the holiday indulging. It’s a little sweet and creamy but filled with real, nourishing food.
Yes, you are in the right place! How do you like the new look of the website? The blog should be easy to navigate and, I’m hoping, a place where you’ll want to spend some time getting tips on navigating the gluten-free life with ease. Please let me know what features make it helpful for you. I’ll be tweaking it in days to come as I familiarize myself with the settings. Larger print is on my to-do list.
I hope you’ve had a great holiday season. Maybe you still have a few days off. We’ve spent a lovely time with our daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons in Columbia, Missouri. We also got the very exciting news that our other daughter and her husband in Colorado are expecting their first child!
In Missouri, we mostly lazed around the house as the children are young and need to do lots of napping. However, we did make and eat lots of great food!
- Charlie cooked our Christmas turkey in an outdoor oilless fryer this year.
- We enjoyed that with lots of tasty sides and
- Apple Pie for dessert.
- Later in the week, I made Martha Stewart’s flourless chocolate cake sweetened with a tart cherry sauce rather than whipped cream,
- Simple Sausage Casserole,
- Thyme and Parmigiano Roasted Sweet Potatoes (both requested repeats from a previous visit),
- Rockin’ 5 Ingredient Sweet Potato Turkey Chili from Pinch of Yum (5 ingredients not counting spices and counting onions and garlic as one),
- and began experimenting with some new recipes for the blog.
- My daughter and I made a nice charcuterie board for New Year’s Eve.
It’s fun hanging out with with a four-year old! When his mother asked if he enjoyed Christmas, his response was, “Yes! When’s my birthday?” When he returned from a trip to the hardware store with Charlie, he showed us what they’d bought and explained in all seriousness that the nuts were not nuts you eat. So cute!
ST CHARLES, MISSOURI
On our trip down, Charlie and I stopped at a favourite place we like to visit when traveling through. Historic downtown St. Charles, on the edge of St. Louis, Missouri, is especially pretty at Christmas time. This time, we enjoyed a coffee in Picasso’s Coffee House.
While in Columbia, we did manage to get out a bit. and discovered Shortwave Coffee and The Grind. Both served up good coffee and interesting, cozy atmospheres. A couple of other longtime favourite spots of ours are Lakota Coffee Company and Kaldi’s Coffee. I was able to get a gluten-free pizza when we all went out to Shakespeare’s Pizza.
Then, on the last day before we left, we discovered Nourish Cafe & Market. It serves organic and health conscious food, smoothies, cold pressed juice and grab and go meals. Everything they sell is gluten-free! I had a delicious Open Face Tuna Salad Melt sandwich. Charlie ate the Turkey Reuben Melt. There are even special children’s items on the menu, so I ordered a Baby Broadway and muffin for our grandson. This is definitely a place that I will want to return to each time we visit!
HEALTHY BLUEBERRY PEACH SMOOTHIE WITH ALMOND MILK
Now, let’s get to the smoothie. It’s made completely dairy-free with Cashew Yogurt, which is incredibly easy to make and sets up on the counter in a day or two. Then just throw everything into the blender and whiz it up!
